Does the SMART Base Plug™ stay in the anchor when the base is on?
Yes. It stays seated at all times. The spring compresses when you drop a base on it and springs back to full height the moment the base comes off. You never handle or store loose plugs.
How is this different from a foam plug on a string?
Loose foam plugs get pulled out, lost, or knocked aside, and dirt still packs the anchor. The SMART Base Plug™ is spring-loaded to stay put through tens of thousands of base changes, and the tassel rakes right over during infield grooming.
When do I ever take it out?
Only when you're permanently filling the anchor holes, like a field renovation. For normal play, base changes, and infield maintenance it stays in.
Will it fit my base anchors?
It's sized for standard base anchor sleeves used across baseball and fastpitch and slowpitch softball. If you run a non-standard anchor, contact us before ordering.
